Ethiopian Canadian Fusion Berbere Poutine
Berbere makes everything better ... INCLUDING POUTINE!
Berbere spice added into gravy mix is the perfect addition to spice up our Canadian classic poutine!
Ingredients:
- Frozen french fries (you can use fresh potatoes, chop into fry size and roast or air fry)
- Cheese curds
- Gravy mix (or you can make your own from scratch)
- Berbere Ethiopian spice mix
- 2 cups water
Instructions:
- Preheat oven according to french fry package directions (usually 425)
- Spread frozen fries on baking sheet, sprinkle with ½ tbsp Berbere spice
- Bake according to package directions (usually 18 - 24 minutes)
- While french fries are cooking, combine gravy mix, 1 -2 tbsp Berbere spice and 2 cups of water in a saucepan
- Over medium heat, bring gravy to a boil stirring constantly
- Simmer gravy for 1 minute
- Layer french fries, cheese curds and prepared gravy
- You can customize your poutine according to your desire, or stick with the original (well-loved for a reason)! Feel free to get creative with your additions, but some suggestions we like are:
- Bacon
- Fried chicken
- Roasted veggies (tossed in more Berbere spice)
