Spaghetti and Pili Pili Meatballs

This recipe is similar your regular spaghetti and meat recipes. It uses the Pili-Pili and Berbere spices to add a smooth flavor of delicious yet bearable spice and mouth water watering goodness! 

 

Preparation time: 15 minutes

Cooking time: 35 minutes

Serves 2-4 persons

 

Utensils needed

1 large pot for boiling spaghetti

1 deepened skillet or pan of choice for spaghetti sauce

1 spoon for stirring

1 colander 

1 all-clad pasta ladle

 

Ingredients Sauce

1 pack of spaghetti pasta

1 can or jar of your favorite pasta sauce

1 large tomato

1 large onion 

1 heads of green onions

4 cloves of garlic (1 tbsp. pre-chopped garlic)

2 strands of fresh thyme

1 tbsp. salt

1.5  tbsp. pili pili spice

1 tsp. Berbere spice

2 tbsp. oil

 

Ingredients  Meatballs: (You may want to blend the following ingredients together  Except meat and egg)

 In a bowl add 

500 grams pound of lean  ground meat (Chicken, beef, or Turkey)

2 tbsp. lime or lemon juice

1 large onion

1 green onion

2 strands of fresh thyme,

2 cloves of garlic

2.5 tbsp. Pili Pili spice

1.5 tbsp. Berbere spice

.5 tbsp. salt (to flavor)

1 egg (or substitute with 5 tbsp. of breadcrumbs) and mix together.

Shape golf ball size meat balls and place them on a tray or in a pan and in an oven (or toaster oven) for 10 minutes at 375 degrees. - You can also air fry these at 320 degrees for 7 minutes then remove and let sit.

Sauce:

Finely chop tomato, onion, green onions, garlic, fresh thyme and set aside (You may want to start by chopping the ingredients that will not burn your eyes).You can also blend these ingredients together in a food processor if you are not a fan of chunky ingredients in your sauce or have children that are particular about certain foods.  

Place the pan on medium heat(again) and add 2 tbsp. of cooking oil. 

When heated, add chopped ingredients and cook for 2 mins

Add pasta sauce

 Add 2 tbsp. of Pili Pili spice and 1.5 tbsp. of Berbere spice and  stir for 1 minute. 

Add pasta sauce and let simmer for 7-10 mins before adding meatballs

Pasta

In a large pot, bring 4 to 5 cups of water to boil and add 1 tbsp. of salt. 

Add pasta and stir a few times to avoid sticking together. (Cook for the duration of time indicated on packaging). 

Strain in colander and rinse with cold water to stop pasta from cooking more and sticking together. 

Plate and serve as desired!
